Content Analysis Plan
Name of student
Institution of affiliationThe research question that I will be analyzing is:
“Do manufacturers of men’s products have a higher likelihood of sponsoring violent TV shows than other kinds of sponsors?” Part 1
In this research, the units to be analyzed are:
1. Men’s product
2. Manufacturers of men’s products
3. Violent TV shows
4. Manufacturer of non-men products (another kind of sponsor)
Part 2
Sampling methods will be different for the number of TV stations, period of research study, TV hours watched per day, and the number of commercials I intend to code.
Systematic random sampling will be employed in examining the TV stations. A TV station is either likely to air violent TV shows or not. For instance, those with strict viewer-driven content are not likely to air, while those will no strict viewer discretion are likely to air. From the pool of TV stations without viewer discretion, a TV will be randomly selected for study.
The random sampling method is the best approach for the research study. With a random period selected, the behavioral expectation of the units to be analyzed will not be biased. The research question under consideration may be subject to unit bias as a result of behavioral change when under study. Therefore, there is a need for randomization of the period of study.
The number of TV hours watched per day can be clustered for study. The groups or clusters of these study hours, for instance, could be less than 2 hours a day, 2 to 4 hours, 4 to 7 hours, and more than 7 hours. In each of these clusters, the TV stations, commercials aired, and the target audience could be analyzed.
The number of commercials to be coded for the study will be assessed through a stratified sampling method. TV stations air different types of commercials. Even for violent commercials, there are different categories – promotional, informative, and marketing. Once the commercials are categorized into these subgroups, they are coded for study depending on the intended purpose and the target audience.
Part 3
a)
Codes are needed for men’s products and violent TV shows. With coding, different categories of men’s products and violent TV shows will be categorized by specially assigned codes. For instance, any information collected through the use of questionnaires is assigned codes. This is done to facilitate the process of categorization and inputting of data into statistical analysis applications.
b)
The number of violent TV shows sponsored is the dependent variable while the manufacturers of men’s products become the independent variable. In this experiment, it turns out that we are interested in determining the number of TV shows sponsored by the manufacturers. This means that the TV show's number and frequency are determined by the manufacturers’ motives.
c)
The analytical strategy according to the conclusions of reporting elite writers the results from the research will be determined by the nature of the research units. The number of TV stations to be watched and the target audience appear in quantitative form. This will necessitate the use of codes to organize the outputted data. Once similar categories have been put together, the researcher could label the categories in terms of outcome indicators of the TV stations, their numbers, and the issues addressed. With these tabulated concerns, it would be easy to identify and report trends and patterns. The periods of research study, TV hours watched per day, and the number of commercials will appear in quantitative form. The outputs could be tabulated in terms of rankings, ordering, and other forms of tabulations. Once this is done, the results are in a form that can be analyzed statistically to deduce patterns and trends.
